I read something about DSpace has an Opensearch Support via OSDD
(OpenSearch Description Document) - this would give you a way to query
and get result back which you could use / visualize.

Is that something which could help you? E.g., http://base-search.net/
has a OSDD so you can get an idea how to query this meta repository
