Tagging and Reviews

I have found that initiatives like this need a critical mass of participation. Most small special libraries do not serve a large enough client group for it to really take off. I feel (just my gut talking here) that you would need an active population of almost 200 people for this to work.

I have implemented tagging and reviews of catalogue records in a couple of special libraries I've worked at and I found patrons rarely used them. We didn't promote these features very well, so perhaps that would have made a difference.

Hello,

We made a test in 2008 (see below): users were invited to add a
comment / rating / tag after returning a book.

After the evaluation period,
- comments and ratings stopped
- provision of additional tags occurs very rarely

One of the explanation was that our institution is small (50 people)
and users were Web 1.0 (this has evolved since then) : they do prefer
to talk about a book.

Regarding tags, those readings were very inspiring

Hope it helps
