ebook Call Numbers

The OCLC and vendor-supplied MARC records for our ebooks do have an LC call
number in most cases. We use a local 099 field designation of ELECTRONIC
BOOKS instead. We don't strip the LC numbers from the records, though, as
we do with the fields for Dewey and NLM call numbers. I leave those fields
in just in case we want to use LC numbers for these books at some future
date, though they are not seen by the patrons unless they poke around in
the MARC version of the record.
One of the strategies for finding books on a topic is to browse by call
number, so I can certainly see why some libraries use them for the ebooks.
