We assign call numbers to ebooks for collection development purposes. Item records are suppressed so the call numbers don't appear in the results list or full display. All the patron sees is a link to the ebook.

The works from our own collection that we digitize are cataloged with the same call number as the physical book, prefixed with the word ONLINE, to make them easier to find and identify.

Does anyone out there use call numbers for ebooks? If you do, do you have them appear on results lists? Why do you do this? Any comments would be welcome...
