Clonezilla! Free and fantastic. I've been using it rather than ghost for a year now. Prompts for USB connect drive. I have images for all my setups on a large external drive...

Subject: [Web4lib] cloning or imaging a windows PC
Hi,
I am looking for a cheap way of copying an image of a hard disk to a memory stick. The hard disk runs Windows XP using the NTFS file system, or, in some cases, it will be running Windows 7. The disk can be 100 Gb in size but only about 7 Gb is in use. The memory stick is about 8 Gb.
I considered booting from a Knoppix CD and then using the dd command to copy an image of the hard disk onto the memory stick, but I presume the data will not fit on a memory stick. If I am to use Knoppix in this way, do I need a very large external drive or is there some way I can compress the image file.
I was planning to use these two switches with the dd command.

Is this correct?
Is there another approach I should be considering?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards,
John
