Mike Shatzkin, a well-respected publishing futurist, has an excellent
post on Kindle lending topic, which looks at mostly from a
producer-angle:

Shatzkin believes less than 10% of Nook titles were lendable, but
predicts Kindle will make that rise. He sees the rise in Nook-lending
circles (converting each purchase into two reads), gives credibility
to the notion that removing DRM will cannibalize sales. As much as I
hate DRM, he's clearly right—and need have only looked at the 50%
decline in recorded music sales for evidence of this.
