Library Systems Administrator:  Drew University Library (Madison, NJ) seeks
a collegial professional for library systems administration and other
technological support.  Drew has been a SirsiDynix customer since 2003,
migrating to Unicorn and Web2 public catalog in January 2004.  The primary
responsibility of the systems administrator is to maintain, improve and
upgrade the library's ILS and OPAC. S/he will work within a collaborative
environment to solve problems through negotiation with stakeholding units in
the library and to maximize the efficiency of software, reports, upgrades,
interfaces and library workflows in the SirsiDynix software.  Because this
position has been vacant for two years initial focus will be to plan and
implement software upgrades to Symphony and e-Library.

The library is user-focused.  The systems administrator will configure and
implement user interface designs in both the ILS and the public catalog to
optimize the user experience.  S/he will also provide leadership in the
evaluation of open source and vendor products.

Drew seeks to be a leader in the state-wide VALE-OLE project of open source,
enterprise-level library applications designed to replace current integrated

Drew’s system administrator will devote a portion of his/her time to further
the development and implementation of this project.

The Drew library values partnership and cooperative problem-solving.  In
addition to fostering ongoing relationships with University Technology, the
successful candidate will have opportunities to work with campus technology
departments where the implementation of Banner (named Drew 360) interfaces
with the library.

The systems administrator will provide leadership and vision to help
evaluate emerging technologies and to support initiatives which require
systems understanding and interfacing.  Possible new programs include
creation of an institutional repository and systematic digitization.  S/he
will also support or provide general back up for electronic resources and
library technology issues related to Z39.50, OCLC, digitization, etc.  For a

Required:
A Bachelor’s degree
One to three years technology experience with database administration and/or
enterprise systems
Proven ability to work constructively both independently and in cooperation
with colleagues and users in a service-oriented environment
Demonstrable knowledge of Perl and/or PHP
Experience in a UNIX/Linux or Windows server 2003/2007 environment,
including facility at the command line and with basic scripts

Preferred:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree in an information
technology-related field
Familiarity with Sirsi's Unicorn/Symphony ILS and Web2/e-Library OPACs
Demonstrable working knowledge of Java and Javascript
Basic knowledge of mark-up languages and metadata standards, particularly
MARC and Dublin Core
Experience in user interface design
Familiarity or experience with library functions, e.g. e-resources,
acquisitions, circulation, emerging technologies
Experience with SunGard/Banner implementations

This position reports to the Dean of Libraries. The position will be staff
or faculty rank depending upon the degrees. Salary is commensurate with
experience. Drew meets the NJLA minimum salary requirements for library
faculty appointments.
