The award-winning Consortium Library at the University of Alaska
Anchorage is recruiting for the position of Electronic Resources
Librarian. Located near the Chugach Mountains in Alaska's largest
city, the Consortium Library serves both the University of Alaska
Anchorage (UAA) and Alaska Pacific University (APU). The Library is
fully engaged in statewide programs and supports joint purchases with
a variety of partners. Working in this collaborative environment, the
Electronic Resources Librarian (ERL) is primarily responsible for all
phases of investigating, acquiring, and managing licensed electronic
resources including serials, monographs, databases, and other digital
format. There are 19 library faculty liaisons that the ERL will be
working with during these phases, especially in reviewing and
marketing the electronic resources. The position reports to the Head
of Collection Development.
Salary: minimum $60,000 annually; health and life insurance, tuition
waiver benefits; represented by bargaining unit.
Job Responsibilities:
The ERL is the Library's liaison to vendors, publishers, and consortia
partners regarding all issues in the acquisition and maintenance of
online resources. Manages the lifecycle processes for electronic
resources including, but not limited to, tracking vendor and license
information, providing license information to appropriate library
departments, renewals, plans for discontinuation of resources or
significant interface changes, and customization options. This
position monitors data and statistics to develop the analysis of
electronic resource use and pricing patterns to support
decision-making; manages the Library's link resolver and knowledge
base (currently Serials Solutions products), and is the point person
in troubleshooting access to e-content. The ERL will also be
responsible for ongoing activity focused on the identification of
print serials for possible transition to electronic format. Works
closely with the Head of Collection Development and collaborates with
liaison faculty on marketing and outreach plans for increasing
awareness and usage of electronic and digital resources, and may
provide public service. The ERL's work schedule requires some
flexibility, depending on the demands of the position.
As a member of the faculty, the ERL is expected to participate in
professional organizations, faculty meetings and governance, and
continual learning as well as maintaining current awareness of
emerging trends about electronic and digital resources related to
libraries. The successful candidate will have excellent oral, written,
and interpersonal communication skills, a strong commitment to
excellent customer service, and be expected to meet all of the library
faculty requirements for tenure and promotion.
Required:
- Master's Degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information
Science program or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of library experience
- Knowledge of vendors, publishers, and library consortia.
- Understanding of user experiences.
- Understanding practices and trends of licensed electronic resources
and other digital content such as OpenURL, link resolvers, federated
searching, and digital images resources or other similar items.
- Knowledge of the e-resource product market, publishing issues,
pricing models, and access options.
- Excellent written communication skills.
Preferred:
- Ability to collaborate successfully with faculty and colleagues in a
working environment characterized by rapid change.
- Evidence of initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, high
productivity, and creativity.
- Successfully demonstrated leadership skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of working with publishers and vendors
of electronic resources.
- Demonstrated competencies in managing and troubleshooting access to
electronic resources, including authentication via proxy server,
OpenURL link resolution, and web browser requirements.
- Project management experience.
- Evidence of problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Experience with inventory tracking and report generating tools.
- Experience with developing marketing materials to promote electronic
resources.
