[Web4lib] code to log searches to catalogue, other forms?

Hi. We have several search boxes on our home page, to the catalogue,
our federated search product, our journal lookup, and a Google custom
search engine for gov docs.

We'd like to insert code into all of these forms to grab the search
string and other form settings (eg the catalogue form lets you choose
author/title/keyword with a pulldown) and maybe a date stamp and IP
address (just so we can tell who's on-campus vs off), and save it to a
simple log file before passing the user's search onto the real service.
Even just a tab-delimited text file (or one per search box) would be
fine.

Is anyone else doing this who can share their code?

We use Drupal 6, so a drupal-specific solution would be ideal, but we
can certainly deal with anything in php or javascript, maybe perl too.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

PS. Thanks to everyone who answered my previous question about allowing
comments - I got a lot of good ideas from your replies, and they've all
helped me re-shape my own position on the issue. I'll be taking it all
to our next decision-making meeting.
