BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB
As a member of the University Library Team, this librarian will: 

           Coordinate the selection and acquisition of electronic resources; assist in negotiating cost/funding issues with library selectors and external partners; manage database trials. 
           Configure and maintain all library technologies that support e-resource management. 
           Solicit, maintain, and disseminate usage statistics for all licensed online resources. 
           Track developments of new and changing online services and resources. 
           Provide reference and instruction to University students, faculty, staff, corporate members and alumni onsite and those affiliated with the University via Cybercampus. 
           Work with other library staff and faculty to evaluate, select, and deselect materials in all media. 
           Participate in library planning, assessment, and evaluation. 
           Collaborate with other staff in peer training and staff development. 
           Serve as the library's subject specialist and liaison for assigned disciplines (to be determined based on candidate's experience and organizational needs) and maintain effective communication with faculty in liaison areas. 

Schedule includes evening reference shifts, and one or more weekend days per month. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This librarian oversees all University Library electronic resources. As manager of the library's electronic resources, this librarian works collegially with others by: 

           Coordinating the acquisition, evaluation, marketing and maintenance of electronic resources. 
           Assessing qualitatively and quantitatively the effectiveness of electronic resources and identifying ways to make access to electronic resources more effective and efficient, given the needs of adult learners located throughout the world, differences in learning styles and technological opportunities. 
           Maintaining electronic resources management records that track vendor contacts, consortium agreements, usage statistics, licensing terms, and other account and subscription information. 
           Maintaining effective working relationships with vendors, publishers and consortium partners on behalf of the library. 
           Acting as the point person for monitoring and troubleshooting access issues for the library's electronic resources. 
           Maintaining documentation of electronic resource policies and procedures 

Reference Services: 

           Provides reference services to students, faculty, staff, and corporate members of the library (including Cybercampus and patrons at regional sites). Uses reference interactions as opportunities to help users develop key information literacy skills. 
           Provides face-to-face and online research instruction to classes in liaison departments and to other classes as needed. Maintains effective communication with faculty in assigned subject areas. 
           Orients patrons and prospective students to the range of print and online resources available. 
           When on duty at reference desk on evenings and weekends, oversees library assistants and student workers in handling questions of policies, complaints, difficult patrons, and security issues. 

Collection Development: 

           Works with other library staff members and faculty in assigned subject areas to evaluate, select, and deselect materials in all relevant media. 

Planning, Assessment, and Evaluation: 

           Participates in University Library planning, assessment, and evaluation. 
           Participates in preparation of University Library policies. 
           Participates in assessment of needs for computer and other library equipment. 

Staff Development: 

           Collaborates with staff in peer training and other staff development needs. 
           Participates in relevant listservs for new resources, ideas, solutions, and recommendations. 

Other: 

           Assists in cataloging library resources, as needed. 
           Participates in a variety of outreach activities, some of which occur on evenings and weekends. 
           Completes special projects as assigned by the Director. 
           Other related duties as assigned. 


QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience: 
           Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program. 
           One year of post-graduate professional experience managing a library's electronic resources. 
           Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet and database programs to manage a significant data resource; experience with and knowledge about the management of usage statistics for electronic resources. 
           Demonstrated knowledge of OpenURL link resolvers. 
           Experience with reviewing and processing licenses. 
           Experience working with the cataloging or acquisitions module of the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Integrated Library System. 
           Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency with English grammar and spelling. 
           Demonstrated aptitude for detail oriented work, including strong analytic and problem solving skills. 
           Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills; ability to work both independently and as a team member on a variety of simultaneous projects. 
           Ability to communicate with, and relate to, an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. 
           One year of experience providing reference service in a library setting. 
Preferred Qualifications: 
           Two years of post-graduate professional experience managing a library's electronic resources. 
           Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to serials acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resources management, or other technical services functions. 
           Experience managing EBSCO LinkSource link resolver. 
           Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to contract and license interpretation, and of issues related to fair use, perpetual access, and other use rights. 
           Experience with the variations of electronic resources, licensing, packages, platforms, aggregators, and vendors. 
           One year of experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library to a diverse clientele of adult undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. 
           Knowledge of business reference and experience providing reference support to business students and others in professional-practice education. 
           Experience providing reference support to patrons in distant locations, via e-mail, telephone and instant messaging. 
           Knowledge of and interest in cataloging library resources. 
           Familiarity with information literacy concepts. 
           One year of experience as liaison to faculty, identifying collection development needs, locating and evaluating resources to meet those needs, in light of organizational objectives resources, and other requirements. 
           Experience assisting others with Internet resources and computer technology. 
The ideal candidate will also possess the following: 

           Project management experience. 
           Knowledge of best practices, standards, issues and trends relevant to web and information technology in academic libraries; flexible and open to incorporating new developments in web technology appropriate to adoption in the academic library environment. 
           Basic-level proficiency with Unix/Linux, regular expressions, and web standards and technologies, including aptitude for installing and maintaining open source web applications on LAMP architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
