[Web4lib] need some free design advice

I noticed that you changed the copyright notice on the page; however, unless the site has had major structural changes and a complete realign visually, I don't know if you should legally be their credits from the information there if it was initially designed by the hosting company. Just food for thought.

If you wanted to offload some bandwidth costs for loading the jQuery library itself (not the plugins that extend jQuery functionality), you can load most of the major JavaScript frameworks from Google's API.

More information on Google's JS API:

Many, many thanks to all, and especially to Alex for suggesting the
jQuery slideshow routine. Here's where I'm at:

http://www.ryepubliclibrary.org/sandbox/

The white gap under the slideshow seems to have something to do with
the "what's new" and "events calendar" boxes, and I'll poke at that
some more tomorrow. Right now I'm pretty happy. This is a 1000%
improvement over what the site looked like a month ago.
