Responsibilities
The Web Librarian develops and maintains The Florida State University
Libraries' web site, which includes providing access to electronic
resources, directing content, and maintaining site organization and
structure. The Web Librarian provides leadership for web initiatives
throughout the Libraries and serves as coordinator, trainer and primary
support for decentralized efforts to create and maintain web pages of
library departments and subject collections. Responsible for monitoring and
implementing changing web technologies and communicating new software,
hardware, and training needs to the Associate Director for Technology.
Working with the Libraries' Web Task Force and the Associate Director, the
Web Development Librarian carries out new projects, sets guidelines for
Library-supported web pages, and identifies policy, technical, and
programmatic needs of the site. Works with other library departments to
solve access and other problems. This position plays a pivotal role in the
relationship between the Public Services, Technical Services, and Technology
Divisions. The Web Librarian also works with several non-aligned College
libraries as well as campus Information Technology staff and the Office of
University Communications. The Web Librarian represents the University
Libraries in appropriate University groups and committees.
The Web Development Librarian reports to the Associate Director for
Technology.
Salary Range
$50,000 to negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications
. ALA-accredited MLIS or at least four years post-MLIS experience in a
library or educational institution.
. Demonstrated experience in library website design and development,
including the building and/or integration of a variety of Web applications.
. Experience with a variety of Web development and authoring software
tools, including open source software, HTML, XML, CSS and experience with
programming languages and Web support technologies.
. Experience in applying Web accessibility standards, user-centered
design principles, and interactive concepts.
. Demonstrated project management and problem solving skills and a
established ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects
concurrently. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
. A well articulated understanding of the role and possibilities of the
Web in the teaching, learning, and research pursuits of a large research
library setting.
. Strong public service philosophy and evidence of professional
initiative and leadership.
. Demonstrated commitment to working with and serving people. Ability to
inspire a shared vision and work effectively with colleagues, students and
faculty in a collegial environment.
Preferred
. Demonstrated experience with library technology integration using
linking tools (such as SFX, Metalib) and Web 2.0 technologies.
. Demonstrated experience with a Web content management system such as
Drupal.
. Experience developing online learning resources and environments for
instruction.
. Experience in training others on the use of various software and web
design techniques.
Other Information
This is a full-time, 12-month non-tenured faculty appointment. Benefits
include 22 days vacation, 13 days sick leave. Group, medical, dental, and
life insurance, an optional retirement program or state retirement, and no
state or local income tax. With supervisor s approval, may qualify for
University tuition scholarship for up to six hours credit each semester.
