PEI Public Library Service: Systems Librarian
FULL -TIME CLASSIFIED POSITION

Department:    Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour
Location:         Morell

Open to the Public

This position is responsible for providing innovative vision and  
leadership
in the development, delivery, and assessment of new and existing library
information systems in the PEI Public Library Service. This position
provides leadership and management for the Technical Services unit in  
the
provision of library materials to public and school libraries. Working
collaboratively as a member of the Library Management Committee, this
position contributes to overall library planning and development.

Reporting to the Provincial Librarian, the incumbent will:

- Provide leadership in the administration, operation, and ongoing
assessment of the Library's integrated library system and related  
interfaces
and processes;
- Lead migration to a new Integrated Library System;
- Monitor ongoing Library IT operations including database maintenance,
report generation, and serve as point of contact with IT Support  
Services;
- Develop innovative new systems and services for clients including  
web 2.0
technologies;
- Manage Technical Services Unit and staff;
- Oversee cataloguing policies, standards, goals, and processes to  
maximize
output;
- Serve as point of contact with teacher-librarian community to ensure
effective provision of services to school libraries;
- Coordinate special projects as required;
- Participate in strategic planning as member of Library Management
Committee and
- other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

- Applicants must have a Masters of Library and Information Science.
- Experience with the development of web-based information services as  
well
as a significant knowledge of new and emerging digital library  
technologies
and standards.
- Knowledge of integrated library systems including open source systems.
- Knowledge of information systems and database structure.
- Knowledge of AACR2R , DDC, MARC, and metadata and authority control
principles.
- Supervisory skills and ability to train and mentor staff.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Other Qualifications:

- Ability to communicate in French would be an asset

Salary Range: 	$26.17 - $32.70 per hour (level 18)
