Systems Librarian/Library Technology Manager Position

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Design, implement, and manage a broad range of information technology-based
systems and services for the Galvin Library, three branch libraries, and IIT
Archives. Collaborate with library staff on the development of
technology-supported services in support of teaching, learning, and
research.
Key Responsibilities
(1) Responsibility for the ongoing administration of the library network,
servers, and related information technology to ensure 24/7 accessibility,
functionality, and stability of these resources. Provide technology support
for web accessible digital collections and services, including the library's
federated search system and library supported institutional repository.
(2) Routinely monitor the overall performance and security of information
technology, systems, and network resources, identifying and implementing
system modifications as needed to optimize overall performance and security.
Maintain server backup systems and comprehensive data recovery plans and
procedures.
(3) Primary responsibility for gathering, compiling, and reporting
statistics on the use of library supported information technology including
library web sites and digital collections on a monthly basis as well as upon
request.
(4) Collaborate with library staff on the development and delivery of
user-centered, technology supported collections and services. Devise long
term strategic plans for the ongoing development of information technology
that keep pace with current standards within the academic library
profession. Assist in the preparation of annual equipment budget proposals.
(5) Assume shared responsibility with the Systems Support Librarian for the
supervision of 4-5 library technology student assistants including
delegating tasks and project assignments, monitoring student performance,
and overseeing the completion of assigned projects and the resolution of
outstanding issues.
(6) Provide regular and consistent communication and updates to library
staff and patrons on the resolution of technical issues. Serve as the
liaison between the library and campus technology units representing the
technology needs of the library and its branches and work cooperatively on
the resolution of campus-related issues impacting access to
library-supported systems and resources.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science from
an ALA-accredited graduate program
-Three or more years demonstrated experience in information technology
management and system administration
-Experience planning, managing, and overseeing complex technology projects.
-Experience with emerging instructional and digital library technologies.
Knowledge & Skills
Skills in TCP/IP, network management, and client server computing.
Knowledge of relational database systems and applications including SQL and
MS Access.
Strong communication and organizational skills;Strong interpersonal skills
and customer service commitment.
