DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES 
QUALIFICATIONS ♦ Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent degree from an American Libraries Association accredited graduate school with a minimum of 12 graduate semester hours in college librarianship courses required
♦ Five (5) years’ experience in a college library, high-level research library, or large public library required
♦ Three (3) years’ experience supervising library personnel required
♦ Evidence of participation in professional library organizations/activities required
♦ Ability to work as a team member
♦ Flexibility in adapting to change
♦ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
♦ A commitment to the teaching-learning process of the community college and the open-door admission process
DUTIES ♦ Develops goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
♦ Supervises library functions, media services, and duplication services.
♦ Encourages understanding of and enthusiasm for the role of the library among faculty and students.
♦ Provides vision and direction for library services.
♦ Supervises and evaluates library personnel in circulation, cataloging, collection development, reference, bibliographic instruction, serials, outreach, duplication, and associated services.
♦ Manages budgetary and purchasing processes.
♦ Prepares and submits appropriate college reports and documents.
♦ Maintains a contractual relationship with Library Management Network (LMN), provider of the library automation system.
♦ Maintains cooperative working relationships with college faculty and staff.
♦ Maintains cooperative working relationships with area academic, public, and special libraries.
♦ Maintains a cooperative working relationship with the University of Alabama Graduate Center in Gadsden, Jacksonville State University, and other institutions as required.
♦ Works with the Dean of Instruction in determining the library budget, seeking input from the library faculty and staff.
♦ Supervises the acquisition and organization of adequate materials to support the curricular offerings of the College.
♦ Provides for the maintenance of library furnishings and equipment and recommends the purchase of new resources as needed.
♦ Recommends personnel for employment and trains and supervises the library faculty and staff.
♦ Acquaints the faculty with library holdings and use.
♦ Provides professional material to faculty.
♦ Complies with all policies of the State Board of Education, the Department of Postsecondary Education, and the College.
♦ Performs other duties as assigned by the President or designee.
