Getting an Out of Office post on a listserv is a personal pet peeve of
mine. I hate the messages in general, even within my workplace, but its
really annoying when it gets posted to a mailing list, or comes back to
me when I post something to a mailing list. 

One of the problems may be that many of us are using Microsoft Outlook.
I investigated who you might selectively disallow these messages from
going out, and couldn't figure out a simple solution. IMO, Outlook make
everything harder than is needs to be, or excludes necessary
functionality.
