[Web4lib] building the e-library of your dreams

Hello everyone.
Please allow me to introduce myself and perhaps spawn a discussion.
I am a physicist and part of an effort to create a global research
institute that includes a substantial e-library to service the needs
of the researcher pool. Our institute will foster research and
development across a broad range of disciplines. We will not be a
teaching institution per se, but individual researchers or groups of
them may have interns and may have academic connections and
collaborations.
Our "institute" will actually be a collection of entities and will
offer a primary affiliation for some researchers/developers and a
secondary affiliation for others.
At this stage, we are assembling the team that will bring our
research institute into full being. Paramount among our initial
concerns is the creation of a premier research library and finding
someone to lead that effort.
The library we create will be an e-library --- exclusively as best
we can determine at this time. It will be scalable without limit and
will be an opportunity for someone -- perhaps someone among you -- to
create the electronic library of your dreams.
In fact, I will shortly hereafter post a "career opportunity" (not
entirely a euphemism since we are not looking for an employee!) that
could appeal to someone on this list or someone known to a Web4Lib
list subscriber.
I am happy to answer any questions. If some details are
(temporarily!) sensitive due to proprietary concerns during startup, I
will ask your indulgence. In general, however, I prefer open
discourse and will try to flesh out areas you express interest in. On
the other hand, I am not a librarian by training and may ask sometimes
ignorant or naive questions of my own and ask your indulgence.
Thanks in advance.
