[Web4lib] What about using Drupal for a stamp collection?

Hello everyone,
I need advice. I am entering library school (SJSU) this fall. I have
a project in mind to do on my own time but it is related to putting
information on the web. My mother, a retired academic librarian, has
amassed in MS Access a beautiful stamp collection (1000+ records),
complete with images and information on Scott #, Year, Category,
Condition, Description, Denom, County, and Format.
She gave me permission to put it on the web so everyone could look at
it -- the images of stamps are really something. At first I thought
to simply import it into MySQL with an Access front end. But, now I
am thinking about opening it so everyone could contribute to it. I
thought of Drupal. But I used Drupal only to develop it as a simple
website for a small business, so my Drupal knowledge is little weak.
The discussion on this list about Drupal makes me wonder if it would
be a good use for a stamp collection?
If I proceed with Drupal, what modules have you used or heard about
that might work? So far I haven't seen any that would make it easy
for everyone to record and display, at least, all the information
already in Access.
If you suggest some other web-based database - a wiki, maybe? - what
would it be? I am open to all ideas. I'd love to learn something new,
too.
I look forward to your responses. I am enjoying the discussions on
this list!
Amy
