*Position Summary*
Under the general direction of the Integrated Library System Section Head,
and with considerable latitude for independent actions, maintains expertise
in the structure, content and purpose of the library's integrated library
management system applications. As a member of the Library Information
Systems Support (ISS) team, s/he collaborates with Information Technology
Services and library staff in support of library applications, services and
systems in accordance with departmental and university specifications.

*Responsibilities*
•    Works closely with ISS staff to survey Library system requirements in
order to interpret and define needs.  Performs detailed analysis and design
of new systems, and modifies the design of existing ones to meet the needs
of library system users. Provides information to Library staff about what is
available and possible in computerized systems.
•    Works with Systems Librarians, ISS staff and other library staff in
maintenance and support of Duke University Libraries integrated library
system (ILS) applications (Aleph, Metalib, SFX, & Verde). Assists with the
planning and implementation of the overall direction and strategies for the
development of automated systems and delivers efficient service from
installed systems.
•    Provides programming and applications support for library applications;
installs and/or customizes, for library use, vendor supplied applications in
the form of enhancements and new releases in the UNIX/Linux environment
•    Ensures the functionality of the ILS applications and Integrates data
and ILS applications with other library and university business systems as
well as other Information Systems relevant to the strategic direction of the
Library.
•    Monitors and reports on the appropriateness of software tools and
operating systems to fulfill the requirement of both vendor-supplied
applications software and proposed applications development.
•    Provides problem resolution support and system tuning activity during
and after systems implementation, either independently or collaboratively,
by communicating with vendor technical support staff, consulting with campus
computing center staff and consulting and collaborating with ISS staff.
•    Works with Systems Librarians, ITS staff and technical support staff
from the professional school libraries (Ford, Law, Med, Divinity) in
developing and implementing procedures and support documentation related to
the utilization and support of Duke University Libraries integrated library
system (ILS).
•    Works with technical staff from other university departments to
integrate enterprise technology tools with Duke University Libraries'
computing infrastructure.
•    Consults with the staff members in the Information Technology Services
and the Center for Instructional Technology to stay informed on current and
emerging technology projects and opportunities for collaboration and
resource sharing.
•    Maintains current awareness of trends and issues relative to
information technology and supported applications.
•    Provides on-call page support in rotation with other members of
Information Systems Support staff.
•    Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
