Alma,
There is talk about a required ICT test for college students, but that is different than a pre-requisite to college. Some colleges offer and some require an information literacy course in order to graduate from college. A pre-req is better because students would have the incentive to take the course because they are excited and frightened about heading for college.

Your information literacy requirement is an excellent starting point, but sounds more like computer basics rather than research skills. I recommend you look at area online information literacy courses offered by community colleges and refer students to those courses -- a passing grade could meet your requirements. Online or live introductory information literacy courses for high school students wishing to meet your requirements (and hopefully other college requirements) would be a good way for high school students to get their feet wet with college expectations while they are still in high school. Also, California community college courses are FREE to high school students.

Best wishes.
- Jackie

I hope this question is not outside the scope of the list.

We are re-evaluating our current Information literacy requirement for all entering students and are wondering what, if anything , is being used in higher education. We currently require all entering student to take an online class that has a tutorial based on Searchpath as well as Office 2007 Level 1 for Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Students must pass the associated assessments with a score of 70% or higher to fulfill the requirements.

Thanks to all who are able to share with us.
Alma
