scare you off.  We are looking for someone who is:

*	Interested in Supervising a great tech staff of 5: Network
Administrator, LAN Administrator, Assistant Millennium Sys Admin, and 2
Desktop Support Specialists;
*	Attracted to working with the Millennium system and heading up
beta testing and development partnerships with Innovative Interfaces;
*	Excited by the prospect of working with library and technology
staff to lead other new technology initiatives in a medium-sized urban
library with a stable budget.

The Scottsdale Public Library seeks an energetic and imaginative Library
Technology Supervisor (Lead Systems Integrator) who is eager to play a
significant role in setting the library's technology agenda by leading
technology initiatives and supervising a skilled technology staff.  The
successful candidate will have a clear understanding of the variety of
technologies used in a library setting, a commitment to responsive and
innovative service, strong communication skills, and the demonstrated
ability to maintain the security and reliability of existing systems
while exploring and implementing emerging technologies. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

*         A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science,
or related field of study, or four (4) years experience in a library or
information technology occupation.  Two (2) years experience system
analysis or design, development, testing and implementing software
applications (such as Integrated Library Systems or digital library
applications ), including one (1) year of supervisory experience.  

*         A Master's Degree in Library Science is desirable.

*         The ideal candidate will have knowledge of planning, analysis
and budgeting, be able to successfully balance competing priorities, and
consider political as well as technological factors when making
technology recommendations.

*         Must have knowledge of general operations of all facets of a
Library Technology department, including business practices and
procedures, computer equipment, open systems, networking and client
server environments and library automated systems.

Responsibilities

The Library Technology Supervisor (Lead Systems Integrator) provides
daily management and supervision of technical staff within the
department, including mentoring, training, scheduling and developing
written performance evaluations.  The Technology Supervisor (Lead
Systems Integrator)  plans and implements upgrades to departmental
systems; plans technical projects; resolves operational problems; and
ensures that all internal and external customer requests and problems
are being appropriately resolved in a timely manner.  As one of the
technology leaders within the department, this position is expected to
stay current with software and hardware products and technology trends
as well as library and business philosophies; recommend strategies to
improve and enhance the systems available to library staff and
customers; present information to departmental management; interact with
other departments, vendors and/or outside agencies on technology
solutions; provide technical direction and support, including budget
projections; and assist with strategic planning.  This position works
extensively with City Information Systems department to plan
departmental technology, assists with citywide rollouts and upgrades,
and supports City IT policies.  The position requires the demonstrated
ability to analyze the needs of departmental users and to translate
those needs into decisions for implementing new technologies;
effectively listen and communicate both verbally and in writing with a
diverse group of people, including staff, managers, vendors and
customers to address concerns and recommend alternatives; understand the
sensitivity of political situations and to act in an effective manner;
conduct advanced troubleshooting in order to correct issues related to
software and hardware; design effective testing environment for the
implementation of new departmental technologies; actively participate in
the technology procurement, including RFP development; establish an
effective relationship with all vendors and identify issues before they
become long-term problems; handle multiple projects simultaneously and
use good judgment in prioritizing work assignments for personal workload
and for staff.

The City of Scottsdale is a community of 320,000 with a vibrant
artistic, cultural and social atmosphere and a burgeoning  technology
incubation sector. Bounded by the Cities of Phoenix, Tempe, and the Salt
River Pima Indian Community, Scottsdale serves a diverse population of
varying technological needs.  The Scottsdale Public Library is a
medium-sized urban library system consisting of four branches with a
fifth planned to open in early Fall 2009.  The City of Scottsdale is a

fiscal year 2008/2009 budget with no significant cuts or staffing
