Even if the pc is frozen, itcan still run the update with the only issue being that the updates will notbe there after the next reboot. McAfee doesn't release .dat files eachhour; instead, I think they're issued every couple of days. DeepFreeze can be configured to unfreeze itself during a specified time inorder to do update. We had ours set to unfreeze itself at 2 am to doWindowsUpdate & McAfee updates. So the 2 scenarios you are faced with are: 1. either the pcs stay frozen during the day & do the McAfee updates (whichare lost upon reboot)2. or configure DeepFreeze to unfreeze at some point when the pcs won't beused & configure McAfee to update then. Hope this helps. Suggested /considered devices: 1) iPod Touch - would be fun, but not a great choice for us right nowhttp://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/ 2) HP iPAQ units - a number of managers have newer wireless enabledunits, the small screen size is a major challenge for catalogue and website searchinghttp://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/prodserv/handheld.html 2) ASUS eeePC - we have actually ordered a couple of these units to trythem out. $400, light, already has linux, firefox, openoffice, durable flash based hard disk, 7" screen. Quite excited to see howthis works for our staff. Seems to hit a good balance of weight, screen size, cost and relative ease of use. http://eeepc.asus.com 3) SIRSI PocketCirc - at first glance this would seem to be a goodchoice as it is PDA based and has full circulation functionality. Thereare several big negatives with this one. (Prices are VERY approximate) - small screen size on a PDA can be a real challenge - licensing is more than $1,000 per user (we would need about 20) -with $200 per year per license ongoing support - the flash connected bar code reader is being sold by SIRSI for morethan $1,000 - it cannot do circulation in our setting because we use RFID and itcannot turn off the security bit - we would still need to buy the HP iPAQ unit.	http://www.sirsi.com/Solutions/Prodserv/Products/pocketcirc.html Bottom-line: costs close to $3,000 per complete unit andit couldn't do RFID circulation and not ideal for catalogue or web sitesearching. Code4Lib Journal strives to fill a communication niche above simple description of software implementations but below pure theoretical digital library investigation. The editorial board is looking for content that is practical, demonstrates how to exploit technology to create digital library collections and services, or offers insight and forethought regarding the use of computers in any type of library setting. While articles in the journal should be of a high quality, they need not follow any formal structure or guidelines. Writers should aim for the middle ground between, on the one hand, blog or mailing-list posts, and, on the other hand, articles in traditional journals. We want publishing in the journal to be easy and painless, helping the community to share timely, relevant information that is currently shared all too rarely. The first issue of the Code4Lib Journal was published in December 2007 and is available at http://journal.code4lib.org/issues/issue1. The second issue of Code4Lib Journal is well underway and set for publication in March. The third issue is not quite full. The Journal welcomes submissions at any time on a rolling acceptance basis. Proposals received by Friday, March 14, 2008 will receive consideration for publication in late June 2008. Upon provisional acceptance, authors will be given an article deadline, typically 6-8 weeks before journal publication. Send in a submission. Your peers would like to hear what you are doing. Submission of articles proposals and articles should be submitted electronically to c4lj-articles at googlegroups.com (a private list read only by C4LJ editors) in a format likely to be widely readable. The article should be accompanied by some brief author metadata and, if appropriate, disclosure statement (see below). We have no more precise specs at this time, but may develop some at a later date, and reserve the right to ask for submission in a different format if we have trouble with yours. Authors are welcome to contact the Editorial Committee (http://journal.code4lib.org/editorial-committee) with a proposal, rather than a complete article. For more information, see our Article Guidelines (http://journal.code4lib.org/article-guidelines/) and the Journal's Process and Structure (http://journal.code4lib.org/process-and-structure/).

The book will be available for freedownload from the book web site, as well as for purchase in hardback. I want to include an image of Anne "in action" -- speaking, teaching, orworking with a group of librarians as only she could. But I find, to mydismay, that I have none. Therefore I'm hoping that among all the manypeople that Anne touched someone will have a photo or two to share that maybe just the one for the frontispiece of this book.
