HEAD OF REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION
(SENIOR ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN/ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN)
Milne Library at SUNY College at Oneonta seeks a creative leader with
outstanding management skills and strong customer service orientation to
head the Reference and Instruction Department. This is a 12-month,
tenure-track position with salary commensurate with experience and
qualifications. Planned start date: April 1, 2008. For additional

Responsibilities: Develop and implement policies and procedures for the
organization, operation, and assessment of reference and instruction
services; oversee the development of the library's web site and the
collection of print and electronic reference sources; assume a major
role in identifying and implementing emerging technologies and
incorporating best practices into reference services; work in
partnership with IT staff to propose and develop collaborative services
for the newly created Learning Commons at SUNY Oneonta; supervise and
coordinate the work of 6 librarians and several support staff;
participate actively in reference, including some nights and weekends,
library instruction, and collection development activities.
Qualifications Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited
program; at least five years of professional experience providing
reference services; evidence of strong supervisory and management
skills; demonstrated command of print and electronic reference sources;
excellent communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; teaching
experience. Preferred: Progressively more responsible managerial
experience in an academic library; experience providing reference
service in an academic setting; demonstrated fluency with current and
emerging library technologies; demonstrated skills in using data for
assessing and enhancing public services; experience in a Learning
