HEAD OF REFERENCE AND INSTRUCTION
(SENIOR ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN/ASSOCIATE LIBRARIAN)
Milne Library at SUNY College at Oneonta seeks a Head of Reference and
Instruction who will provide vision, leadership and expertise in
developing programs for the effective delivery of reference and
instruction services that are integrated into the College's new learning
commons model. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position with salary
and rank commensurate with experience and qualifications. Planned start
date: November 1, 2008. Responsibilities: Develop goals and implement
policies and procedures for the functioning and assessment of reference
and instruction services; participate with the Associate Provost and
other department heads in planning and implementing library-wide
policies and procedures; supervise the work of the members of the
Reference and Instruction Department (5 librarians and several
paraprofessionals); supervise the provision of virtual and on-site
reference services; oversee the selection, management, delivery, and
marketing of digital and print reference resources; oversee the
development and implementation of the library instruction program using
on-site, outreach and distance learning venues; oversee the development
and marketing of the library web site; provide reference services,
including some nights and weekends, and teach library instruction
classes; serve as liaison to academic departments and participate in
collection development activities; assume a major role in identifying
and promoting emerging technologies and incorporating best practices
into reference services; work in partnership with Academic IT and the
Center for Academic Development and Enrichment to anticipate needs in
developing collaborative services for the Learning Commons at SUNY
Oneonta. Qualifications Required: Master's degree from an
ALA-accredited program; at least five years of professional experience
providing reference services; evidence of strong supervisory and
management skills; excellent communication skills; strong collaboration
skills; teaching experience. Preferred: Progressively more responsible
managerial experience in an academic library; experience providing
reference service in an academic setting; demonstrated fluency with
current and emerging library technologies; demonstrated skills in using
data for assessing and enhancing public services; experience in a
