Job Description
The Office of Public Affairs and Communications is seeking a Online
Communications Specialist. This individual will manage, maintain, and
edit USIP.org and USIP's intranet.
Primary Responsibilities
* Oversight and general management of USIP's web site and
Intranet including selecting content for daily updates, edits and
handling staff requests.
* Select content for and update/maintain USIP's homepage.
* Create new page layouts as needed.
* Ensure design consistency across the site (ongoing).
* Work with program staff on the organization and best
presentation of content on the web while ensuring the guidelines on
content update procedures are being utilized effectively (ongoing).
* Collect, analyze and report on web site statistics (daily).
* Ensure technical functionality and compatibility of Website
across platforms and browsers (monthly check).
* Upgrade site's technical features to industry standards
(ongoing).
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems (as needed).
* Design and maintain templates for our e-mail marketing system.
* Work as a team member on the creation and deployment of e-mail
marketing messages.
* Work with Public Affairs staff to advise on and implement
customized outreach tools on the Web (ongoing).
* Provide graphical support for the website and maintain the
audio/visual components of the site.
* Make recommendations for advancing USIP's online communications.
Required Experience
* Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
* B. A. or B.S. in Communications or Information Technology.
* Interest in international or cross-cultural communication.
* Knowledge of Web Design, CSS/Style Sheets, Java.
* Working knowledge of PHP.
* Solid understanding of database systems.
* Strong ability to program in HTML.
* Knowledge of Dreamweaver and Content Management Systems.
* Knowledge of photo editing software including Adobe Photoshop.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Technical background of web technologies a plus.
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to be flexible is
desired.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits
include an excellent retirement program, health and dental insurance,

accounts, etc. Employment with the U.S. Institute of Peace is not a
Federal Government position.
