[Web4lib] Text Messaging through existing email

The only relationship between mail and instant messaging is bundling.
IBM (Lotus), Microsoft, Novell and Imail bundle instant messaging
servers with their email server suites, and for the most part, these
products require a proprietary client to get full functionality.

Novell IM has one of the shortest client lists of the bunch. It can be
used with GAIM and the pay versions of Trillian.

If you require your own instant messaging server, you might want to
consider Jabber or some other XMPP based system. AFAIK. the commercial
products like Groupwise are best employed where there is a need for
secure messaging.
