The California State University, Dominguez Hills and the University
Library invite applications for an energetic, creative, and skilled
librarian to join its Reference Services Department.  The successful
candidate will provide leadership in designing and developing the
Library's web services, including the Library's website and functions
associated with the Library's electronic databases.  The successful
candidate will also make significant contributions as a member of a
growing library staff planning a move to a five-story Library Addition
which will be built on the south side of the existing library.  

 


Responsibilities


 

As Web Services Librarian, coordinates, develops and implements the
Library's web presence; maintains and updates the Library's website and
serves as principal developer of the Library's primary web pages; works
closely with reference librarians to develop user-oriented web pages;
provides technical support and assists colleagues and other library
departments in creating web pages; works closely with campus web
development staff; maintains a working knowledge of emerging
technologies critical to the delivery of web-based services to students.

 

As Reference Librarian, regularly serves at the Reference Desk using the
print and electronic collections; prepares and conducts library
instruction on the use of library services and resources; prepares
library instructional materials including Web resources.  Must be able
to work some night and weekend reference desk assignments. 

 

Participates in Library and University committee work; keeps abreast of
current developments in librarianship and instructional technologies;
and engages in professional development activities.

 


Qualifications Required


 

*	Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
library school; substantial years of librarian experience required if
appointed as an Associate Librarian. 
*	Knowledge of effective web design; demonstrated ability to build
effective websites that are user and instruction-oriented.
*	Experience and proficiency with web design, web development
applications, and scripting languages, such as HTML, Dreamweaver, and
other graphic design, video and audio applications.
*	Knowledge of best practices, standards, issues and trends
relevant to the web and information technology.
*	Ability to work independently without close supervision, as well
as ability to work effectively and creatively as a team member and to
interact collegially with colleagues, teaching faculty, and campus web
development staff.
*	Flexible and open to incorporating new developments in web
technology appropriate to adoption in the academic library environment.
*	Commitment to responsive service.
*	Excellent analytical, organization, time and project management
skills; excellent creative problem solving skills; ability to
meticulously pay attention to details.
*	Familiarity with instruction methods and technologies;
familiarity with electronic information resources.
*	Ability to function effectively in a multicultural environment. 
*	Excellent oral and written communication skills, including
proficiency with English grammar and spelling. 
*	Ability to adapt and handle multiple responsibilities in a
rapidly changing environment.

 

Qualifications Preferred

 

*        Experience with e-resource management/access tools such as SFX,
Metalib, and EBSCO's A - Z Service.

*        Experience with Innovative Interfaces Millenium.

*        Education in computer science or web development.

*        Professional experience in reference and instruction.

 


Terms of Appointment and Salary


 

This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position, and
librarians are expected to meet faculty requirements for scholarship,
professional development and service to the campus community.
Appointment will be as a Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate
Librarian, dependent upon professional experience and qualifications.
Salary will be dependent upon professional experience and
qualifications.    Appointment salary range for Senior Assistant
Librarian:  $55,944 - $59, 628.  Appointment salary range for Associate
Librarian:  $64,320 - $70,320.

            

Anticipated Starting Date:  December 1, 2007

California State University, Dominguez Hills is one of 23 campuses of
the California State University system.  CSU Dominguez Hills is an
urban, comprehensive, public university that serves a culturally rich,
diverse student body of over 13,500 students at the undergraduate and
graduate levels.  Located on a 346-acre site in the South Bay portion of
the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, CSU Dominguez Hills has a

The Library collection contains over 447,000 volumes and approximately
1000 print journal subscriptions.  In addition, online access is
available to a wide array of electronic resources, including over 25,000
electronic journal titles.  Staffing currently consists of 9
professional librarians and 14 paraprofessionals.
