True. Can't argue with you there. However, I'll never have to make a
desert island choice as long as the batteries hold out. ;-)

Well. Actually. The print books I own are the ones I read or intend to
read more than once. For the first reading, I have customarily
borrowed them from the library. If I like them well enough to read it
again, I buy it.
NYPL has an e-book lending program, and I've used it. But, so far, I
haven't found that libraries are (yet) in a position to be a supplier
of first-read e-books. I either get them from Project Gutenberg,
Internet Archive, etc. (and generally have to do some work to convert
them so my Palm can work with them) or buy them.
