My Novell is rusty. If your goal is to stop users from accessing the  
computer without authentication. Wouldn't the Novell Client  
accomplish this?

Depending on how your tree is setup all the configuration is then  
done in these clients.

When I last used this it gave one the choice of

Tree: Higher_ed_super_cool_Uni
Context: departments_space_on_tree
Server: authentication.authority.server

The user will then be granted rights to the computer.
