[Web4lib] graphics cards

Hi all,

I'm hoping to tap into the collective wisdom for an answer to what
appears to be a memory problem.

Our graphics designer, who prepares printer-ready output as well as a
lot of our web content, is experiencing frequent crashes when loading
and editing certain documents. She is running XP Pro on a Dell GX 620
with 3GB of system RAM, a Radeon X600 series graphics card, and she's
running InDesign CS 2 (that is, version 2). Sounds as though it should
be adequate but as I said, certain documents - which are multi-page and
graphics-heavy - are crashing at an unacceptable rate.

I'm currently pursuing the theory that a big bad graphics card with lots
of dedicated memory might do the trick. Problem, is, every time I look
at the specs for any card, from $64 to $1,379 they rave about how game
ready they are. How well optimized for multiple streams of video. How
gamer friendly they are... I'm not at all convinced that a card
optimized for gaming and video streaming is going to help with static
web and print content.

I'd be pleased to hear any comments or suggestions for improvement.
Thanks!
