Reference and Instruction Librarian (002060)

Information and Library Services           

12-Month Faculty, Full-time, Regular    

                                                

This faculty position provides reference and instruction services.  Specific responsibilities include: Providing basic and in-depth research assistance to UMUC students, faculty, and staff in a variety of formats; creating, revising, and teaching classes both online and face-to-face both at the undergraduate and graduate level; working with the Graduate School of  Management & Technology administrators and faculty to add information literacy components to Graduate School classes; performing liaison activities with Graduate School faculty and administrators; representing UMUC Information and Library Services on University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) committees; participating in Information and Library Services' Reference/Instruction/Collection Development projects including developing the print collection and developing and designing Web-based resources to support academic programs, especially those of the Graduate School of Management & Technology; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires MLS from an ALA accredited institution and a minimum of one year of library experience; experience using technology in the delivery of reference and instruction; experience in the use of computers and automated databases; and experience producing Web pages.  Qualified candidates will have knowledge of references sources, particularly in business and technology in both print and electronic formats; knowledge of library technologies; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to plan, organize and implement programs and projects.  Preferences:  Advanced degrees in subject area; experience with adult, continuing educational courses and distance education students in an academic environment; and demonstrated teaching ability with specialization in distance education delivery methods.

  

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
