If you're looking into Ajax, I'd start by looking at Prototype. It
makes Ajax (and some other things) trivial. The Prototype site has
good documentation.

I rolled my own Ajax based on the O'Reilly Ajax book. Now I just use
Prototype and forget about all the details.
