position for a Systems Analyst/Programmer with a substantial project 
management component to continue the development of the “Chymistry of 
Isaac Newton.”

SYSTEMS ANALYST/PROGRAMMER (XML/ETEXT) Vice President, Information 
Technology (PA13 )
Position#: 00027406 (Second Listing)
NOTE: This position is funded a one year with the potential for renewal.

Under moderate supervision, performs project management, analysis, 
programming and other tasks required for the "Chymistry of Isaac 
Newton" project, an NSF-funded project to digitize the alchemical 
writings of Isaac Newton. The texts are being transcribed and encoded 
in XML following the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines. These 
texts will be published on the Web with an interface that allows user 
annotation of text and manuscript images.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three years of related 
experience; advanced study or equivalent research experience is highly 
desirable.   Excellent team work, communication and general project 
management skills. Significant experience with XML and XML-related 
technologies, including XSL, XSLT, Xpath, DOM, SAX, and XML Schema as 
well as experience in systems analysis and programming of complex 
software systems.  Professional experience with Perl or experience 
managing Unicode encoded data in a Java environment is required. 
Experience in graphic and/or user interface design.

Desired qualifications: Experience in the use of an academic library 
and online information resources (particularly with digital 
humanities); experience with TEI P4; knowledge of METS, Dublin Core 
metadata standards; familiarity with Schematron. Experience with the 
Fedora open source digital repository.
