New Technologies for Reference Services

Join your reference colleagues for a day of focusing on new technologies
that can be used to enhance reference services!  Be challenged by new
ideas and ways of thinking!  Reinvented Reference: Emerging Technologies
for Reference Services is a preconference at the American Library
Association Conference in Washington this summer. It is sponsored by
RUSA MARS and RSS, and features an exciting group of cutting edge
experts.  Keynote speaker Michael Stephens (Graduate School of Library
and Information Science at Dominican University), author of the Tame the
Web blog, will address "Web 2.0 Technologies for Reference Services."
David Ward (University of Illinois - Champaign Urbana) will discuss
instant messaging and chat services for reference and what the future
holds in his talk "IM and Beyond."  The afternoon session features David
Free (George Perimeter College) and David King (Topeka and Shawnee
County Public Library) talking about podcasting and videocasting for
reference services.  Using blogs for reference services, marketing, and
outreach will be presented by Karen Coombs (University of Houston).
To conclude the day, Michael Stephens will provide a summary and
reflection of the day, and lead the panel in a discussion.  

Sponsored by CSA RefWorks, Docutek, Paratext, and OCLC QuestionPoint,
the Preconference occurs on Friday, 22 June, from 8:30am to 5:00 pm.
Morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch are included.
