[Web4lib] Google docs

Hi web4libbers!

I love seeing google docs usage - I have many documents in draft up
there now and find it to be a wonderful way to share ideas with
coworkers in other locations. And I don't miss the attachment game
("use this attachment" and "don't use this attachment" and the always
fun "opps, forgot to attach the attachment!")

Another option is to give your customers Openoffice. I've used it
exclusively for nearly 3 years without a problem.

Howard County Library has found Open office to be lovely way to exceed
customer expectations.....

If use is actually going up, are any of you considering not purchasing MS Office (or equivalent) for your patron computers? Or, (gasp!) training patrons on it instead of Word or Excel?

My thinking is that I'll get the basics down and then polish it in MS Word /Excel when I'm done - if it even needs to go that far. The interface is clean and the saving is pretty good; I can honestly say I dislike the number of times it opens a new window though.
