Greetings!

Everyone interested in virtual communities, virtual worlds, and ways in which libraries can serve (and are serving) virtual communities is invited to attend the first ever in-person meeting of the ALA VCL MIG (Virtual Communities and Libraries, Member Initiative Group). Here’s your chance to get in on the virtual ground floor!

WHEN: Saturday, January 12, 2008 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time

WHERE: The Franklin 10 Room (out of thousands of Franklin rooms in Philly — accept no substitutes),
Philadelphia Marriott Hotel, 1201 Market Street

( Number 1 – in red, with a star -- on the ALA hotel map available at http://www.ala.org/ala/eventsandconferencesb/midwinter/2008/phillymap.pdf )

· Learn about and discuss what libraries are doing in Active Worlds, Second Life, Teen Second Life, Whyville, and other virtual worlds

· Explore the nature of the information needs and preferences of the residents of these virtual worlds

· Learn how virtual communities of interest form, grow, and evolve

· Have input into the ALA VCL MIG’s program at ALA Annual in Anaheim
(Yes, Annual is only six months away and we’re still planning the program — revolutionary!)

· Learn why the MIG is the most flexible and funkadelic aspect of the structure of our association.

· Move boldly into the future for librarianship
