Several significant world events happened during the month of May:  The Hindenburg exploded, the Lusitania sank, the Warsaw Ghetto was destroyed, Mexico ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (which gave the U.S. California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming) and Joan of Arc was tried and executed in Rouen, France.
