[Web4lib] Create a customizable homepage/site?

I would echo Karen's concerns regarding the usage of a "MyLibrary" 
system.  I also developed a MyLibrary system many years ago (about the 
same time Eric was beginning work on the MyLibrary at NCState system...we 
compared notes over drinks at a LITA conference).  In our (Cornells) 
case we created a suite of services.  One was essentially a centralized 
bookmark manage that integrated with the libraries collection of 
networked resources, one a current awareness service that would allow 
patrons to be notified of new items added to the catalog based on 
specified criteria, and a service called MyContents which provides an 
aggregated table of contents from multiple journal providers with 
linking into our e-journal system such that one could get to the full 
text of an article from a table of contents of a journal received via 
email within a few clicks.  It also provided a facility to receive 
journal TOCs in multiple formats (Endote, Refworks) to assist patrons 
with citation management.  Only MyContents remains in production today.

There are just too many good alternatives for centralized bookmark 
managers and it was felt that we could not really add any value added 
functionality that would encourage users to use our system over others.  
I've often maintained that that easiest way to collect bookmarks is 
through the browsers internal bookmark/favorites manager.  The issue is 
how to persist those bookmarks such that they are available from 
computer to computer.
