POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT 

TITLE: WEB/INTRANET DEVELOPER (Principal Applications Specialist)

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Seattle Public Library is seeking a Web/intranet developer to assist with all aspects of virtual library: providing support for the Web site and the new Intranet. The position works in the Library's Web office - a division of the Library's communications department - and reports to the Web manager. The Web office oversees the content, design, architecture, applications and programming of the Library's Web site and will be responsible for developing the new Intranet. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

The Web/Intranet developer is responsible for developing and maintaining the Library's Web site and Intranet in partnership with the Web office's principal developer. Duties include: 

· Infrastructure design and implementation of new technologies - collaborates with Web manager, IT, and other Library departments on determining requirements, the selection and integration of suitable technologies to support the Library's Web site and Intranet. Also serves as a departmental lead or project manager for assigned projects, including overseeing the evaluation, implementation and testing of a CMS and future services and systems for the Intranet. 

· Information architecture and design - works with Web manager, Web developer and end-users to establish and enforce consistent and logical architecture and design for the Web site and Intranet. Establishes and documents procedures for the ongoing maintenance of the Web site and Intranet and guidelines for future enhancements. 

· Content provider support - assists with training content providers on Internet and Intranet technologies. Acts as liaison between Web office and Library staff for the Intranet. 

· Troubleshooting. - diagnoses content, architecture, server and user problems, develops technical solutions, and collaborates with the appropriate technical staff on solutions. 

· Web site and Intranet maintenance -supports ongoing maintenance as needed. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Required (application should reflect that you have the following): 

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other related discipline. Commensurate experience and certification will be considered in lieu of the educational attainment. 
· 3+ years experience maintaining and updating a large complex Web site and/or Intranet, preferably in corporate, e-commerce, government services, or similar high-volume and public-focused Internet/Intranet environments. Experience and training must demonstrate a broad range of knowledge of Internet/Intranet applications and technologies. 
· Experience working with HTML. CSS, XML, XSL, ASP and JavaScript. 
· Experience working with multi-level Web site architectures, knowledge of network and server administration and server configurations. 
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
· Demonstrated proactive organizational skills and attentiveness to details, along with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple on-going, routine tasks. This includes a good eye for detail and consistency. 
· Excellent oral and written communication skills. This includes instructional skills and the ability to convey technical information to non-technical staff or customers and to create and maintain user and system documentation. 
· Ability to research, plan, develop, implement new technology initiatives using project implementation and management skills, including documenting processes, developing project plans, task lists, schedules, notifications, etc., and working collaboratively with technical staff and end users. 
· Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers. 
· Highly desired: Experience with SQL or a similar database language and ASP.NET. 
· Highly desired: Prior experience implementing a CMS and/or supporting an intranet. 
· Experience with photo editing and design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand)
