Podcast U: Libraries, Podcasting, and the New Culture of Personal
Broadcasting on Campus

Friday, January 19, 2007
9am-4pm
ALA Midwinter Meeting
Seattle, Washington
***********************************************************************************************

Podcasting stormed into the social and culture spheres as a
revolutionary and disruptive application of some fairly simple and
standard technologies that have enabled an entirely new model for
distributing personalized and portable audio and video content. This
program explore how podcasts can translate in the educational sphere
and the implications and opportunities for libraries to become more
deeply engaged in the campus environment through them. The program
features speakers from both library and IT who will address some of
the leading innovations as well as the strategic and tactical
challenges associated with podcasting on campus, including new uses of
podcasting for the classroom; the impact of podcasting and personal
broadcasting technologies on learning; evaluating, implementing, and
supporting podcasting at the institutional level; library-IT
partnerships in piloting and evaluating podcasting services and
infrastructure; and building podcasting into the service model and
culture of the library. The program will conclude with a practical
demonstration of podcasting and recommendations on how to build a
podcasting studio in the library. Administrators, IT and systems
staff, public services and instructional technology librarians, and
anyone with an interest in podcasting at academic institutions will
benefit from the workshop.

Speakers:

Zachary Pogue, Duke University
Bart Collins, Purdue University
Jill McKinstry, University of Washington
Karen Howell, University of Southern California
Rachel Clemens, California State University, Fullerton
