Position Title: Web Development Librarian

Position Description:

Working collaboratively in a team-based environment, and reporting to the Associate Chief Librarian for Information Technology Services, the Web Development Librarian provides the vision and technical leadership for the development and support for the Library's website and additional web presences. He or she selects and implements appropriate web technologies to ensure that the Library's website and web presences are innovative, technologically progressive, easy to use, secure, and easy to maintain. He or she collaborates and consults with professional librarians, managers, faculty, staff and students to develop responsive, innovative and intuitive websites and web services.

The Web Development Librarian also consults with information technology professionals across campus and from consortia partners in the development of shared and/or integrated web presences, and with information technology vendors and developers of web applications and technologies.

 

The Web Development Librarian works collaboratively within the Development Team of Information Technology Services and with other library units and external campus and consortial partners. Along with the Web Content Coordinator, the Web Development Librarian is responsible for the management of the Library's web presences. Together they consult with the Web Advisory Group and coordinate the activities of the Web Team and the Content Creators Forum in order to ensure that the website is responsive to user and library service needs and that the Library maintains an open and creative dialogue regarding the evolution of web services.  

 

This is a tenure-track academic appointment, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in appropriate research and professional and scholarly activities.

Qualifications and Salary:

An ALA-accredited M.L.S. degree is required. The successful candidate will have had approximately five years of experience, preferably in an academic library setting. He or she will have strong oral and written communications skills; creative thinking and problem-solving abilities; strong leadership and interpersonal skills; a commitment to working in a collaborative team environment; significant project management experience; the ability to multi-task a variety of responsibilities and projects and to be flexible and adaptable in a variety of professional situations. In addition, he or she will have demonstrable experience in the application of information technologies in libraries. The following technological skills are desired: Basic ColdFusion and/or PHP, Advanced HTML, Advanced CSS, and JavaScript. A working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies and concepts like AJAX, web services, SOAP, RSS, podcasting, XML, XSLT is also desired.

 

The position will be filled at the Assistant Librarian level; Salary will depend on qualifications and experience (minimum $50,249 per annum).
