[Web4lib] Category-centric blogs[Spam score: 8%]_

I just went through that exact conversion - last week, I switched my
blog from a blogger account (daweed.blogspot.com) to my own, hosted site
(www.davidleeking.com). The new site is a Wordpress site.

The conversion was extremely easy! Wordpress has the conversion tools
built into the admin side. All it does is rearranges the blogger
template into a very basic date format list (march 2005, february 2005,
etc) and then copies everything. It keeps all content - titles, dates,
posts, comments, etc - intact.

No sweat at all. And then, you have the fun of adding categories to all
of your posts (250 posts, in my case). But well worth it.

You all have been extremely helpful. Thank you. Anyone out there who has
gone through the conversion of Blogger to WordPress? And advice or
lessons learned to share?

I have read an enjoyable post called "Blogger to Wordpress in 13
Not-so-Easy steps" at...
http://bambit.kusangpalo.com/?p=70

...and found the Blogger to WordPress Import Utility at:
http://randypeterman.com/StatTraq/wp-admin/import-blogger.php.

Again, I haven't found the time to try these yet.

It is possible to add categories to a Blogger blog, though it's not
something they support directly.

One way people have found is using del.ic.ious, though I'm sure there
are others.

Both Wordpress and MT do it built-in, though, so if you're not wed to
Blogger as a platform, in the long term, it's probably easier to move to
one of them.

Well, it could be that I simply haven't tried anything but Blogger. I
have installed WordPress on my web server but I have not delved into it.
I found some instructions for converting my Blogger blog to WordPress,
but haven't worked on it. This is my personal space, and I rarely get
time to do much with it. So, my question was probably just in ignorance.

All I want to do is require a category on Blog posts and then have the
entries categorized on the resultant web page. Blogger seems to be
chronology-centric. The entry form for Blogger doesn't give an
opportunity to require or even enter a category. Blog entries are
grouped by date only on the display. I thought that perhaps a different
template for Blogger could build this intelligence into it, but there's
no way to modify the blog entry form that I know of, just the display
template.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure I'll find WordPress to fit my needs.

I was trying to process this as well... Movable Type and Wordpress both
support categories; can you describe your project a little better and
maybe we can make some suggestions?
