Hi Jon
They were created by Mike Spikin, a member of the Library's Publicity Team, so I'll see if he do a write up for the list. He originally did a 2D overhead map, but I think a 3D one works much better.
I've also hijacked the maps for the OPAC (e.g. http://library.hud.ac.uk/catlink/bib/365051/cls/ <http://library.hud.ac.uk/catlink/bib/365051/cls/> ), although the Flash versions were a bit too much for our very low spec dedicated catalog PCs so I had to go for an animated GIF version instead.
I remember someone here talking about creating a virtual model of the campus, that could be used for virtual tours, demonstrating wheelchair accessible routes from one location to another, etc -- I'll check to see if that's got beyond the "vapourware" stage!
regards
Dave

Hi Dave,
Can you share with the list how you made the flash tour? This looks
great.

Hi
Not sure if this is what you're after (as it's not really a tour as
such), but we've got:
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls-bin/cls.pl?c=98/100/222
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls-bin/cls.pl?c=98/100/222>
Personally I think the maps should be larger on the screen, so you might
also want to look at them directly as SWF files:
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor2D.swf
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor2D.swf>
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor3D.swf
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor3D.swf>
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor4D.swf
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor4D.swf>
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor5D.swf
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor5D.swf>
http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor6D.swf
<http://www.hud.ac.uk/cls/flash/maps/floor6D.swf>
We're also pondering doing a podcast audio tour of the library -- if
anyone has already done this, I'd love to hear what you've done!

Anyone know of any good virtual library tours? I'm looking mostly at
academic libraries, but public ones would be helpful as well.
Thanks!
