As soon as possible, after closing date. This is a full-time, regular,
Academic Professional position in the University Library.
*Duties and Responsibilities:*
The Research Programmer position will join a team of 11 professionals
responsible for providing a variety of standard and custom information
technology services and applications to the University Library and its
users. The Library Systems Office serves over 40 departmental libraries
and browsing rooms located in 23 campus buildings, plus the library's
administrative units.**
Responsibilities for this position include: Software development and
integration, particularly focused on the implementation and enhancement
of the Library's Web Content Management System (CMS) based on a Java/XML
framework; Database design and programming; Creation of both internal
and end-user documentation; Providing technical assistance to and
consultation with library faculty and staff.
This position provides an opportunity to work in a complex, multi-vendor
computing environment. The Library Systems Office utilizes a number of
Linux, Windows 2003, Solaris, and AIX servers to provide access to
hundreds of applications and databases for the University Library. The
Library's nearly 1000 workstations are predominantly Windows 2000, XP or
2003.

The Library consists of more than 40 departmental libraries that are
located throughout campus and administratively organized into eight
divisions.
*_Required Qualifications:_*
* A bachelor's or graduate degree in Computer Science or similar
information technology field
* At least two years of relevant professional experience
* Strong programming skills and experience in J2EE, including JDBC,
DOM, and SAX
* Experience using Perl or PHP in UNIX or Windows environments
* Experience developing interactive database-driven web applications
* Experience with web servers & servlet containers, such as Apache
HTTP, Apache Tomcat, or Jetty
* Knowledge of relational database design principles and programming
using SQL
* Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and
successfully handle multiple priorities
* Good oral and written communication skills
*_Desired Qualifications:_*__
* Experience using and/or managing a Web Content Management System
* Experience with JSTL and JSP
* Library work experience and significant familiarity with library
applications and procedures.
* DBA experience with a multi-user SQL RDBMS
* Experience with MS SQL Server 7.0+, MySQL, or Oracle 8+
* Experience with a version control system such as CVS or SVN, and
build systems including Ant and make
* Knowledge of W3C standards including XHTML and WAI/WCAG
* Experience providing training
* Strong desire to learn and stay current with changing technologies
*Salary: * Salary is competitive and is commensurate with credentials
and experience.
*Terms of Appointment: *Twelve month appointment; 24 work days vacation
per year; 11 paid holidays; 12 days annual sick leave (cumulative up to
a maximum of 240 days) plus an additional 13 days (non-cumulative) per
year if necessary; health insurance, requiring a small co-payment, is
provided to employees (coverage for dependents may be purchased);
participation in the State Universities Retirement System is required
upon appointment (8% of member's salary is withheld and is tax exempt
until retirement); newly hired university employees are covered by the
Medicare portion of Social Security, and are subject to its deduction.
