[Web4lib] permissions for archiving student newspapers online

Hi folks,

I'm not looking for legal advice, but... I'm interested in hearing how 
other universities have handled the permissions aspect of making old 
student newspapers available online, if at all.

The New York Times ran afoul of their contracts with authors when they 
put content online in violation of what they had agreed about electronic 
rights. But our student-authors don't sign contracts -- there's nothing 
in writing about how or if the articles will ever be published, let 
alone in what format. So without venturing into the realm of giving 
legal advice, does anyone have experience navigating and or ignoring 
these questions?

I'd like to hear from anyone who's put the fulltext of their student 
newspapers online (especially retrospectively): what you decided was 
acceptable, any pitfalls you've found, etc. Feel free to reply off-list.
