Instructional Design Librarian - - Mad Library Skills Wanted
K-State Libraries November 2006

K-State Libraries ( www.lib.ksu.edu ) seeks applicants for the position
of Instructional Design Librarian. Entry-level or experienced
librarians are welcome to apply, especially if you want to join
progressive colleagues committed to pushing the edge of student
learning. We are looking for someone who thrives on the generation of
ideas through discussion, but has the self-discipline to execute these
ideas independently. Reporting to the Coordinator of Library
Instruction, this position will have primary responsibility for
creating online learning resources and environments for library
instruction. Coursework, employment or other relevant experiences
should demonstrate your qualifications. This is a tenure track position
and appointment will be made to Assistant or Associate Professor
according to qualifications and level of experience.
Core Position Duties :

    * Create online learning resources and/or environments, using a
variety of media and formats
    * Maintain and create library instruction web pages
    * Maintain Assignment Calculator
    * Teach in-person library classes
    * Contribute to other library instruction projects
    * Serve at a reference desk
    * Work with subject librarians to advise or help develop online
learning

Educational Requirements
MLS from ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent from outside the
United States )

Required Qualifications (may be met through educational or
pre-professional experience)

    * Demonstrated understanding of learning theories
    * Demonstrated ability to seek out and learn/master new technology,
e.g. RSS, blogs, and wikis
    * Strong commitment to user service and support
    * Knowledge of information literacy competencies and standards
    * Experience creating and/or maintaining web sites including
familiarity with HTML, CSS and/or Javascript
    * Ability to pursue activities and meet responsibilities necessary
for achieving tenure at K-State Libraries
    * Ability and willingness to work with diverse groups both on the
staff and within the user community
    * Ability and willingness to work with colleagues in collaborative
and team environments as well as independently
    * Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation
    * Evidence of problem-solving skills
    * Excellent oral and written English communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

    * Teaching experience
    * Understanding of the information seeking behaviors of users
    * Understanding of accessibility issues and/or usability testing
    * Experience and knowledge of operations in the academic library
setting
    * Experience with graphic design tools (e.g. Photoshop)
    * Familiarity with course management systems
    * Familiarity with virtual realities
    * Willingness to work a flexible schedule
