[Web4lib] ALA RFP for Content Management System

It's unfortunate that ALA finds themselves in this situation. But,
frankly, I'm not at all surprised. Upwards of 70% of all content
management system projects fail within the first year!

What most organizations don't realize, and what I'm hoping ALA now does,
is that content management is not a *technical* problem, and it simply
can not be solved by the IT department installing a bigger, better CMS.
Content management is an editorial process not a software project.

Before considering any kind of content management solution, I highly
recommend reading Jeffrey Veen (from Adaptive Path) about the myths of
content management systems, and why 90% of web sites probably don't need
a full-blown CMS.

And this is to replace the content management system put in, what, last
year? I'm sure all ALA members will be thrilled to see how well their
dues
are being spent.

from
vendors and/or consultants who propose open source solutions.

An electronic version of this RFP may be obtained at
http://www.ala.org/cms-rfp .

Proposals in electronic format are preferred (rich text or .pdf
