[Web4lib] del.icio.us tags and bookmarking sites -- WHY DO IT?

But everything I read emphasizes the aggregating together as the reason
to do tags!  Until they are part of major search engines I think they
are interesting but are getting more press than is really appropriate
for  their significance.  I just subscribe to furl and will use it to
load and organize my bookmarks so I can access them from other
computers.
 
Adding that tagging to an opac makes sense to me but that is not NOW
that is the future.  What is the current value now?  It looks like to me
we are going to be adding another search engine to where their are
already too many.  Why isn't Google doing this?
