RUSA MARS User Access to Services Committee
presents a program at the 2005 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago
Do you trust your IT staff? Do they trust you? Whose computers are these, anyway?
A dialogue
Program Description: IT staff and public services librarians often have very differing views on this question. Can we find a reasonable compromise when critical user access issues(such as authentication) are involved? How can we work together to balance the needs of the institution to protect its resources and manage its assets with the users' need for access and privacy? The program will provide a forum to discuss these (and similar) issues. This will be a dialogue between IT staff and public services librarians representing both academic and public libraries.
Who? Our speakers are:
- Dennis Newborn, West Virginia University, Head of Library Systems
- Mary Ellen Spencer, Virginia Commonwealth University, Head of Research
and Reference Services
- Karim Adib, Chicago Public Library, Director of Library Automation
- Craig Davis, Chicago Public Library, Director of Adult Services
When? Saturday, June 25, 2005 - 8:30-10:00 a.m.
Where? Chicago's McCormick Place, Room S404
What else? As more information becomes available, it will be posted on
the committee's web site:
http://www.library.umaine.edu/staff/MARS_ALA/MARS_UASC_index.htm
under "Current UASC Projects."
