Consider using SRW/U (Search Retrieve via the Web or URL) as a  
standardized way of searching. The search syntax as well as the  
search results are much more robust when compared OpenSearch. See:

   http://www.loc.gov/z3950/agency/zing/srw/

If y'all are simply incorporating in A9 content into your catalog  
search results through OpenSearch, then SRW/U does not apply.
